Don’t overheat. Late summer time is bound to deliver us loads of warmth and humidity, so attempt to get your gardening chores executed early within the day or within the night.

Hold container plantings in peak type with common deadheading and dead-leafing. Proceed watering and fertilizing too.

Order and plant new bulbs of colchicum (Colchicum spp. and cvs., Zones four–9) and fall-blooming crocuses reminiscent of Bieberstein’s crocus (Crocus speciosus, Zones four–9) for autumn coloration.

Take cuttings of coleus (Plectranthus scutellarioides, Zones 10–11), scented geraniums (Pelargonium spp. and cvs., Zones 11–13), and different tender vegetation that you just need to deliver indoors to overwinter for subsequent 12 months.

Accumulate seeds of your favourite flowers and edibles to share with pals and swap with different gardeners.

Sow cool-season edibles reminiscent of beets, kale, lettuce, radishes, and spinach for a fall harvest.
